Pretty Archie

Pretty Archie is a Canadiana band from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. Long time friends Brian Cathcart (Lead Vocals, Guitar), Matt McNeil (Mandolin, Guitar), Colin Gillis (Harmonica, Bass, Vocals), Redmond MacDougall (Banjo, Percussion, Vocals) and recently added Scott MacLean (Guitar, Mandolin) make up the band. Always jamming together growing up, they guys decided in 2012 to form a band. The band chose the name Pretty Archie after a local (Cape Breton) character known for playing with 2 strings outside shopping malls in any weather and not always (or ever) in key. The guys thought the name Pretty Archie embodied the love of playing and performing music along with representing their hometown.

With the release of Hanging On, Pretty Archie showcase a genre-bending mix of folk, bluegrass, country, rock and vintage soul, all underpinned the band's east coast roots, that's absolutely impossible to pigeonhole.

Lynne Hanson

Too tough for folk and too blues influenced for country, LYNNE HANSON's brand of "porch music with a little red dirt" can turn on a dime from a sunshine, blue sky ballad to a full-on thunderstorm of gritty Americana swamp from one song to the next. She's known for her high-energy, roots guitar driven live performances, whether playing solo or with her band the Good Intentions. A closet stand-up comedian, Lynne often leaves the audience howling with laughter with her between-song-banter.

Lynne is a two-time Canadian Folk Music Award winner (2018 English Songwriter, Ensemble of the Year with The LYNNeS), a two-time Indie Acoustic Project Alt-Country album of the year winner (River of Sand 2014, Uneven Ground 2017), a past winner of the Colleen Peterson Songwriting Award, and a two-time finalist in the prestigious Kerrville New Folk competition in Texas.

Lynne has toured Canada, the US, Europe and the UK. She's toured in support of Grammy nominated songwriters (Gretchen Peters, Steve Forbert), as well opening for guitar legend Albert Lee in the UK and Canada.

Lynne released her 7th studio album JUST WORDS, produced by Jim Bryson (The Weakerthans, Kathleen Edwards), on February 7, 2020.

Zachary Lucky

Zachary Lucky is unapologetically old-school country, armed with a husky, baritone voice - He carries himself like a younger Richard Buckner or a heartier Doug Paisley and receives comparisons to songwriters such as Gordan Lightfoot and Kris Kristofferson. He sings of Canadian places and people as knowingly as he might Townes Van Zandt or the Rio Grande. It's a relatable show on many levels, and conjures universal feelings that have passed through our collective timelines. Already hailed as a master storyteller by outlets ranging from No Depression to The Globe and Mail!, Lucky's Everywhere A Man Can Be is his most powerful statement to date.

Catherine Kennedy

Catherine Kennedy will be sure to capture and take you on a storytelling journey with her musical compositions that "make you feel part of something bigger." Her works directly stem from the surrounding environment, where she uses everyday experiences that normally go unnoticed.

In 2018 Catherine released her debut EP, Fifty-Fifty Chance. As is stated in it's title, the album explores the feelings and thoughts of taking chances, as well as what happens when we don't. She has taken part in festivals such as FestForward and Shivering Songs and is excited to see what comes next.

Her music appears as images in which fiction and reality meet, meaning shifts and the past and present fuse. Having toured her music in countries such as; France, Germany, England and Belgium, Catherine now home in Saint John back from Acadia where she studied music therapy.

The Tortoise the Hare & the Millionaire

A scruffy, rough-around-the-edges quintet decked out in plaid and denim, The Tortoise The Hare & The Millionaire are grounded in a sort of no-nonsense, straight-shooting southern blues rock. However, the group flits effortlessly from genre to genre, not in a tacky way, but in a way that represents the grand scope of their influences, including southern blues, rock, funk and Louisiana jazz mix.

Since forming in 2016, the band has grown tremendously with respect to their musical prowess. Beginning as a blues/rock trio (Eric Allard, Matt Carr, Ted Nicholson) Tortoise the Hare & the Millionaire have continuously grown to incorporate their favorite genres into their sound and live show adding two permanent horn players (Adam Johnston, Jenn Russell) to the band in 2019.

With over one hundred shows under their belts and nearly as many festival stages (Area 506, Music NB, Folly Fest, Evolve, Harvest Jazz and Blues, Living Roots, etc.), Tortoise the Hare & the Millionaire capped off 2019 with two huge shows including supporting Amy Helm at Cloggeroo Festival and opening for Canadian Blues phenom Ariel Posen and US Alt Country icons Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats on Harvest Jazz and Blues closing night in 2019.

2020 will see Tortoise the Hare & the Millionaire touring the summer festival circuit and putting the pieces together for a new album with a release date TBA.

Track of Rock

Formed in 2015, Track of Rock started out with a bunch of young friends that wanted to play music just like their idols. They wanted to revive Rock N' Roll in their region of the Acadian Peninsula, located in New-Brunswick, Canada.

Starting out by playing covers of mostly AC/DC and Guns & Roses, the band members grew over the years to where they are now, a group of musicians that just released their first album at the age of 16 or 17 years old. The Band wishes to spread their music all over the world to revive the declining popularity from the genre that is Rock.

The Stonemasons

The Stonemasons are a young Fredericton 4 piece rockin blues band, recently won the FHS battle of the bands and are looking to make their mark in the local scene with some well put together originals mixed with some tasty covers.

With a commanding stage presence and an inviting charm, she doesn't need a band to deliver an engaging and energetic show. She has all the sound she needs under her fingertips, with a remarkable finger style guitar technique. She has played in venues from cafes to soft-seat theaters, from living rooms to festival stages.

Bud Rice

Bud Rice is a singer/songwriter based out of Montreal, Canada with debut album Belfast under his belt and working towards the latest instalment of music, Piece of Heaven set to release in 2019 . Named after the birthplace of his grandfather and the hometown of his mother, Belfast is an album that culminates Rice's family, love, loss, and general day to day experiences. The 10-song album is an eclectic collaboration ranging from intimate, lyrically driven songs to upbeat soul, R&B, and rock tunes put together with a heavy hitting assembly of Montreal artistry. The production is thanks to Hotel2Tango, PJ Studios, Studio 451, Mixart, and Grey Market Mastering.

Rice grew up in a musically influenced home. His father, local Celtic musician Dave Gossage, inspired him to start playing as a child. From an early age Rice often rejected formal musical training, but always had an appetite for performing. His charisma and natural drive was what landed him playing onstage in bars as early as 15 years old. He played with friends and solo in cafes and venues around Mile End as a start to his music career then moved on to playing showcase shows around Montreal, Toronto, and New York City. He has been playing music for nearly 12 years, and music has been his sole source of income for the past 5. his music ranging from deep roots folk style to blues and rock influenced songs.

Rice is a strong supporter of the local music scene and plays regularly in and around Montreal's bar scene, his deeply emotive lyricism is incredibly personal and specific which heightens the authenticity of his sound. Combined with his soulful hooks, Bud Rice is a truly unique and fresh addition to Montreal's music scene.

His forthcoming album, Piece of Heaven, was recorded at Montreal's Breakglass Studios, engineered by David Smith (Leif Vollebekk), co-produced with David Gossage, and edited by Padraig Buttner-Schnirer. It features Marc Beland (Jonathan Roy) Ken Presse (The Franklin Electric) Jo Lorgis, and Alex Lebel (Kandle). The album is a deeply personal collection of songs dealing with great love, and great loss, written over the course of 4 years and has been described as the "Break-Up Album of 2019" with musical influences similar to that of Leif Vollebekk, Bahamas, Alabama Shakes, Ryan Adams and Wilco.

Terra Spencer

Terra Spencer spent much of her youth in a basement in Summerville, Hants County playing piano and secretly strumming her granddad's guitars. Since 2014 she has taken the odd break from her day job as a funeral director to tour with acclaimed folk country musician Ryan Cook, after striking up a friendship with him while scooping ice cream at a music festival. A newfound passion for songwriting led to her posting a flurry of YouTube videos for a community of enthusiastic and encouraging listeners, co-writing with Ryan for his 2017 release, Having A Great Time, and collaborating with friends and mentors including David Francey and Gabriel Minnikin. Terra's lyric-driven original songs and gentle, hand-stitched instrumentation with fingerstyle guitar and piano draw from the intimate storytelling spirit of Jackson Browne, Judee Sill, and Mark Kozelek.

Kristen Martell

Kristen Martell is a singer/songwriter from Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia. With her evocative voice and trusty acoustic guitar, she sings comforting songs that help remind the listener to slow down and live in the moment.

Born into a musical family, Martell inherited a passion for music from her multi instrumentalist Grandfather. She never forgot his early encouragement as she went on to learn piano, trombone, and fiddle. Eventually she found her way to the acoustic guitar, the instrument which held the key to finding her voice. She began writing songs as a form of meditation, allowing her to tap into her subconscious and fully understand and express her emotions. "This form of connection is what I thrive for." she explains. "Music fills the spaces where words fall short."

Kristen spent her early adult years on the local singer/songwriter circuit, but eventually life got in the way. With a full time career as an environmental scientist and two kids, her music faded into the background of her life. For ten years she dedicated herself to her responsibilities, but always felt something was missing. Her deep urge to share her music finally reemerged in 2018 in a huge burst of creativity and inspiration. Calling it her "comeback", she is now working on recording a new album, and continuing to express her gift to the world.

Russ Robson

Raised on broken down houseboat in the swamp lands of the Holland Marsh, tossed out of school, survived deadly car crashes, banned from bar's, towns and even countries. Russ Robson has a story to tell.

Although this may sound like the resume of a mad man, his music says everything you need to know about him especially with songs like "Drink and Fight" and "Shoot You If You Stay". His voice and lyrics are honest and raw, and his grungy folk style is unique as hell but also reminiscent of the wayward soul's that helped color his musical canvas. Imagine Hank Williams, Kris Kristofferson, Townes Van Zant, and Steve Earle coming out of 1990's Seattle Washington… only not at all.

Alan Jeffries Band

Alan Jeffries is more connected with his music than ever before. A powerful singer and guitarist he is well known to music fans as a mainstay in the David Myles band. Lately, he has been teaming up with some of the best bluegrass musicians, to present the music he was raised on.

Drawing from a deep well of tradition and influence, his debut album, Coffee 'til Midnight won the 2014 ECMA for Roots / Traditional Solo Recording of the Year. Alan is also a past recipient of the Atlantic Bluegrass and Oldtime Music Association's Guitarist of the Year.

Alan's music walks the fine line between traditional and progressive bluegrass sounds with ease. It is not the romantic pursuit of an urban folkie, it is the product of someone who has grown up on the sounds and traditions of country, old-time, and bluegrass music his entire life. The manner in which Jeffries and company play off each other and deliver their music is an energetic and satisfying experience which represents decades of collective experience. The language of music between these 5 people is an ever evolving , living, breathing conversation.

"...some of the best bluegrass players and singers in the land."

- Bob Mersereau, CBC

"Coffee 'til Midnight is an album with a timeless sound for an ageless crowd."

- Cybergrass

"Coffee 'til Midnight est un exercice de style efficace et mémorable."

- 500khz

"this Halifax-based artist specializes in a kind of country music that sounds like it's been unearthed rather than newly recorded. Bearing a passing resemblance to John Prine's "Dear Abby", with a lower smartass quotient, this features a narrator who wallows in melancholy while sounding bemused about his predicament."

- The Star, Anti-hit List

"It isn't surprising that Alan Jeffries makes his living as a professional musician handling lead-guitar runs and providing harmonies for his friend and longtime collaborator David Myles, occasionally playing old-time country tunes with travelling troubadour Petunia, and selling out shows with his supremely talented band."

- The Daily Gleaner
